Core Muscle
The weather in Michigan is really unpredictable. Only couple days ago we barely survived a heat wave with the soaring temperatures of close to 100F, and yet, here we are today with low of 60F. Handling a hot temperature is one thing but living with a big temperature drop is quite another. If we are going to maintain ourselves well in extreme temperature change, we must have a strong body.
People who go to gym and exercise understand the importance of core muscles. They keep us from falling easily and help us with maintaining our balance. In the spiritual realm, we also need 'core muscles.' They amount to our faith confession, which does not disappear against life's calamities. When we believe and say that "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God" (Matt. 16:16), we have a clear idea of what it means to maintain our faith and overcome any obstacles that come in our way.
I had a long conversation with one of our church members battling cancer many years ago. I felt the mighty 'core muscles' he had in his spiritual life. Even though his life was full of pain and suffering, nothing could stop him from sharing about Christ. He was passionate about sharing how the good Lord was guiding his life during his illness. I thanked the Lord as I sat and listened to his testimony.
Dear brothers and sisters, don't you think that our life is like the unpredictable weather, full of unexpected, tough events? That is why we need the spiritual core muscles. I pray that you will keep looking at Christ, the author and perfector of our faith, and overcome any challenges that come your way. May the LORD bless you and keep you strong.
