Act of Kindness

06/26/2021

A few week's ago, I lined up at a Tim Hortons drive-thru. You will agree with me that the line-up has grown much longer since the pandemic, testing our patience. Well, here is what happened. Someone lined up perpendicularly to an existing long line. And I was the nearest person to do something about it. I figured he used another entrance to come into the Tim Hortons parking lot and did not see how everyone else made a line. I am sure the driver felt a bit awkward.
I motioned to him to feel free to come in. I could not ignore him or pretend that I did not see him. A driver behind show me a gesture that he is upset I let him cut line. but I have learned over the years that it is better to be kind than unkind in such a situation. When it was my turn to pick up the coffee and pay, the cashier said the driver before me had already paid for my coffee and that I was good to go. A small act of kindness earned me a free cup of coffee and a smile. I felt the warmth of a stranger.
A kind act can go a long way during a pandemic when everyone is tired and weary. It can melt our frozen hearts and bring energy back. It helps us believe how wonderful the world can be. The words from the Book of Proverbs come to mind: "A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed" (Prov. 11:25). Notice what it says about people who encourage others: they will be encouraged in return. That is one of life's truths. Let warmth go around and try to be better neighbors to others. Let us use kind words and be nice to one another.
May the LORD bless you and keep you strong!
